How to Volunteer

volunteering@hrlact.org

If you are an HRLA member hoping to become more active within the chapter, there are many opportunities available to you. Our committees present a variety of activities in which you can become involved, and any assistance and time you can offer is much appreciated!

Communications Committee

This committee, headed by Communications Vice President Kemberly Kelly-Core, is responsible for compiling, editing, designing, and laying out the chapter's newsletter. Additionally, this committee works with local media sources to ensure community awareness of chapter activities. Duties include providing local papers with brief chapter-related news items, providing content to the Webmaster for online posting, and participating in the development of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the chapter.  Currently, Kem is looking for reporters for the HRLA newsletter.

If you are interested in serving on the Communications Committee, please contact Kem Kelly-Core at communications@hrlact.org.

Membership Committee

Co-Vice Presidents of Membership Barbara Campo, PHR, and Stacey Harris run this committee, which is largely responsible for the recruitment and retention of HRLA members.  Other duties include maintaining the membership database and promoting membership to the HR community at large.  Membership Committee members coordinate efforts to welcome new members at each meeting, and respond to requests for information about membership through telephone calls, e-mails, and personal contact.  This committee also notifies and follows up with each member for annual renewal in December.  We're currently looking for meeting greeters, people to help with the registration desk, and help setting up and breaking down for meetings.

If you are interested in serving on the Membership Committee, please email Barbara or Stacey at membership@hrlact.org.

Programs Committee

This committee, headed by Co-Vice Presidents Sandra Spencer and Amy Leger, researches and selects the topics and speakers for program and satellite meetings throughout the year.  This committee works to find topics of broad interest to chapter members, and provides information about each meeting to members and affiliates.  Committee members work with hotels and banquet facilities in the area to set up meeting locations.  Other responsibilities include submitting program content to the HRCI for certification credit approval, distributing and collecting program evaluation surveys at each meeting, and writing articles and summaries for the newsletter and website about each program.

If you are interested in serving on the Programs Committee, please email Sandra Spencer or Amy Leger at programs@hrlact.org.

Workforce Readiness Committee

Workforce Readiness Advocate Maria Krotsis, PHR, heads this committee, which serves as an advocate for workforce readiness chapter activities.  Members work together to develop and support workshops, seminars, and initiatives (usually one a year) to help our members and the community at large in the betterment of their careers and job searches.

If you are interested in serving on the Workforce Readiness Committee, please contact Maria at workforce@hrlact.org.

Serving on the Board of Directors

Board members generally serve a term of two (2) years.  Occasionally a seat will become vacant mid-term; when these vacancies occur, an announcement is made at the meeting following the vacancy.  If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors, please contact President Janet Welch at president@hrlact.org.

Volunteering for Workshops, Group Activities, and Special Functions

If you are interested in serving on a workshop committee, helping out at a meeting with setup and registration, or want to suggest a special function or activity, please contact Linda Olbrys, Board Member At Large, at volunteering@hrlact.org!
