As a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, HRLA members can attend chamber events at the member price (www.chamberect.com).

Opportunity to participate and provide input to guide the direction and growth of the chapter.

OUR GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION:

Our chapter was formed in 2000 based on a grassroots initiative of HR professionals to fill a gap for such a resource in Eastern Connecticut.  Our boundaries are flexible and include anyone who works or lives in Eastern Connecticut or Western Rhode Island, from Middlesex County, New London County, Windham County and even across the border in Rhode Island.  Our meetings are generally held in the New London county area.

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA AND HOW TO JOIN:

There are four categories of membership.  Professional Members, Associate Members, Student Members and Honorary Members.

Most will qualify either as Professional Members or Associate Members.

Professional Membership is limited to individuals meeting one or more of the following criteria:

  • Individuals who are engaged in the profession of human resource management at the exempt level for a least three years
  • Individuals who are certified by the HR Certification Institute (PHR or SPHR)
  • Faculty members holding an assistant, associate or full professor rank in HR Managements at an accredited college or university and have at least 3 years  experience at this level of teaching
  • Full time consultants with at least 3 years of experience in the field of Human Resource Management.
  • Individuals who work in a sales capacity for HR related products and hold a SHRM national membership
  • Full time attorneys with at least three years experience in counseling and advising clients on matters relating to the HR profession.


Associate Membership includes:

  • Individuals in non-exempt human resource management positions;
  • Individuals who do not meet the requirements of the professional membership category but who demonstrate a bona fide interest in human resource management and the mission of the Chapter.

StudentMembership includes:

  • Individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program.
  • Membership and meeting are offered at a reduced cost.

For more detailed criteria and to download an application form, please click here.  Annual membership cost is $55.00 for Professional and Associate Memberships and $25.00 for Student Memberships.  Our fiscal year is January through December.  Renewals are due prior to December 15th.

CODE OF ETHICS

Members of the Human Resource Leadership Association of Eastern Connecticut agree to honor, respect and support the purpose of this Chapter and SHRM.

The chapter shall not be represented as advocating or endorsing any issue unless approved by the Board of Directors.

No member shall actively solicit business from any other member at Chapter Meetings or use information provided to him/her (such as the membership directory)  as to solicit business without approval from the Board of Directors.


SHRM MEMBERSHIP

HRLA members are encouraged to maintain their SHRM membership in order to avail themselves of the wide range of benefits provided by this international organization.  HRLA is required to have a minimum of 50% of our members with active SHRM membership. HRLA receives financial support from SHRM based on the level of SHRM membership.
